Of course, we know that the name of our property is The Mill Creek Hotel and we are located right in the heart of downtown Lake Geneva. However, we’re fine if you just want to call us MillCreek. It’s a catchy name and as long as you found us during your search that’s all right by us.
Do you ever wonder if there is a MillCreek in Lake Geneva? The Mill Creek Hotel is situated within the Donian Nature Preserve and yes there is a creek that runs behind the Hotel’s parking garage, but I have yet to see a mill. I think that I will need to do some research on this to see if perhaps there was once a Mill next to the creek. I wonder what it held. Is the creek that runs behind Mill Creek Hotel actually named MillCreek? This is something to look in to. I enjoy doing research and this could be an interesting project.

A little bit about Yerkes Observatory: Yerkes Observatory is an astronomical observatory operated by the University of Chicago in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. Williams Bay is located along Geneva Lake right by Lake Geneva.The observatory, which calls itself “the birthplace of modern astrophysics, was founded in 1897 by George Ellery Hale and financed by Charles T. Yerkes. It represented a shift in the thinking about observatories, from their being mere housing for telescopes and observers, to the modern concept of observation equipment integrated with laboratory space for physics and chemistry.
The Observatory has the largest refracting telescope successfully used for astronomy and has a collection of over 100,000 photographic plates.

Yerkes Observatory is open for free public tours every Saturday throughout the year. Programs begin at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and Noon. The guided portion of the program begins at 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 12:15 p.m. and last about forty-five minutes. We don’t take reservations. While there is no charge, we appreciate a suggested donation of five dollars per person.
